Local natural dyer Amanda de Beaufort will introduce participants to the age old process of
botanical dyeing—the process of using plants to create sustainable, toxin-free dye.
In this workshop participants will learn how to make their own paints from plants, flowers and other
natural extracts. Working on fabric and paper, participants will come home with the knowledge on how
to create a rainbow of different colors using modifiers and other techniques including using natural
thickeners. Botanical paints are perfect for breathing new life into old stained clothing or an eco-art
activity for children.
Each participant will leave with a bandana of their own creation. Participants are also encouraged to
bring their own medium to small sized natural fiber (cotton, wool, silk, linen, etc.) item to paint. This
technique is perfect for garments or linens with stains. Any synthetic content will not be suitable for
dyeing.
No prior experience required.
$75. All materials including bandana are included in the price of the workshop.
